Management Team

With 30 years of experience and over 250 issued U.S. Patents to his name, J. Christopher Flaherty is a leading inventor in the field of medical device technology. Mr. Flaherty's patents and applications span a broad range of medical technologies including Cardiovascular products such as stents, anastomotic clips, embolization devices and revascularization systems; Drug Delivery products such as implantable pumps and ports, intravenous pumps, and body attached subcutaneous delivery devices; Neurological products such as neural sensors, nerve regeneration devices and epilepsy detection systems; Orthopedic products such as spinal stabilization products, prosthetic implants and percutaneous delivery tools; Gynecological products such as cervical expansion devices; Limb movement and Prosthetic products; Clinician Controlled Robots; and Medical Energy Delivery systems.

In addition to inventing the first fully disposable, programmable infusion pump for subcutaneous drug delivery, Insulet's PODD(TM), Mr. Flaherty designed the device to allow for low cost mass production with ground-breaking technology. Mr. Flaherty has also piloted the development of such medical products as the Pioneer Catheter, an ultrasonically guided guidewire placement catheter now owned by Medtronic; a system of interventional products that enabled the PICVA(TM) procedure, the first ever percutaneous coronary artery bypass procedure performed in a cath lab by a cardiologist; the PumpMan(TM) multi-therapy ambulatory infusion system for home healthcare use , and Stratofuse(TM) PCA, a patient controlled analgesic delivery device for the hospital setting.

Through his years managing the patent portfolios of medical device companies now owned by such industry leaders as Medtronic and Pfizer, Mr. Flaherty developed a sophisticated software program to expedite patent filings and manage intellectual property assessment and development.

In his career, Mr. Flaherty has assisted companies in raising over $350 MM in investment capital. He has managed pre-clinical research efforts, led teams through European and American clinical trials, and achieved numerous FDA and European regulatory approvals.

Mr. Flaherty has been an invited speaker at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, presenting new technologies. He earned a B.S. in Avionics Engineering from MIT in 1985, where he won the Luis de Florez award for inventiveness.

Max Flaherty - Vice President of Technology

Max Flaherty provides design and technology assessment for AheeBuild, and is a named inventor on over 25 U.S. Patents. In his young career, he has held engineering positions at companies such as Draper Laboratories, Ablation Frontiers, and the Avon Center for Breast Imaging Research at Massachusetts General Hospital.

 

He graduated from Northeastern University in 2010 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Computer Engineering. During his senior year at Northeastern, Max lead a design team to develop the LiveSafe Device, which detected falls, and set an “incident” condition, to be incorporated into devices such as the Life Alert Emergency Alert system.

Heather Roark Parker - Patent Counsel

Heather Roark Parker is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, assisting AheeBuild in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Ms. Parker’s patent experience primarily relates to medical devices, biotechnology, and life sciences.

 

She earned her B.S. in Biology and Biotechnology with a minor in Business from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2013 and earned her J.D. with a certificate in Technology Commercialization Law from Syracuse University College of Law in 2016.

 

Ms. Parker is admitted to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts bar and the New York State bar.

William J. Gorman - Quality and Regulatory Affairs

William J. Gorman is a technical professional with over 25 years of medical device experience ranging from Infusion Pumps, Disposable Insulin Delivery Systems, Implantable Blood Pumps, Anti-Infective and Anti-thrombogenic Coatings, Neurosurgical Devices, Implantable Devices, Respiratory Care Products, Minimally Invasive Surgical Devices, Urinary incontinence Devices, Organ Transportation Systems, Blood Separation Systems, to Orthopedic Devices.

 

He is experienced in the fields of product development, project management, design control, quality systems, intellectual property and regulatory interface. William has a solid track record of bringing medical devices from concept to market. Mr. Gorman has been the Director of Engineering and Director of Quality and Regulatory Affairs in both start-up companies and established medical device companies such as Smith Industries, Pfizer, and Thermo Electron.

 

Mr. Gorman runs Gorman Consulting, a boutique firm specializing in medical device product development, project management, and regulatory submissions. Mr. Gorman has worked on emerging medical technologies including: infusion pumps, disposable insulin delivery systems, implantable blood pumps, anti-infective and anti-thrombogenic coatings, neurosurgical devices, implantable devices, respiratory care products, minimally invasive surgical devices, urinary incontinence devices, organ transportation systems, blood separation systems, orthopedic devices, and multiple disposables.

 

Mr. Gorman holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a Certification in Regulatory Affairs from the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society (RAPS).

Lisa A. Frey - Corporate Counsel

Lisa A. Frey has been a business attorney for over 25 years; her practice regularly involves drafting and negotiating contracts to license distribution rights and intellectual property rights. She has extensive experience in the formation of early-stage businesses, both from a legal and entrepreneurial standpoint.

 

She is founder and president of Starshell Press, Ltd., a New York-based publishing company, and in 2000 she provided corporate counsel in the founding of Insulet Corporation (PODD). Her clients have included a major property rights distribution firm, a large investment house, an environmental clean-up corporation, a prestigious New York design firm, and various real estate corporations.

 

Ms. Frey is admitted to the bars of the State of New York and New Jersey, and is a graduate of Tufts University (B.A. cum laude) and Rutgers University School of Law.
